Com-Net Software, a leading provider of information display systems for airports, airlines and transit, today announced the completion of an ECLIPSX ® upgrade to the multi-user flight information display system (MUFIDS) at Tampa International Airport.
ECLIPSX is Com-Net’s family of flight information display system (FIDS) solutions. ECLIPSX-Display, Com-Net’s core FIDS application, is based on the Microsoft ® Windows ® 2000 and Internet Explorer ® and incorporates the latest Web display technologies. In addition to ECLIPSX-Display, the installation included the following products: ECLIPSX-Design, a screen design tool; ECLIPSX-Monitor for monitoring system health; ECLIPSX-Failover for switchover to a backup server in the event of a primary server failure; and ECLIPSX-2Web, a FIDS to Web interface.
“In Tampa, we are very proactive in seeking improved amenities and facilities for our customers,” explained Louis E. Miller, executive director of Tampa International Airport. “And now with Com-Net’s upgrade, our customers are able to view the airline code-shared flights.”
The ECLIPSX upgrade gave Tampa International Airport a wider range of capabilities on how flight information is presented. Most importantly, ECLIPSX allows the airport to display code-shared flights as a single line of flight information. This capability, which has become increasingly important as airlines team up with more partner flights, provides additional display real estate, allowing more flights to be displayed on airport monitors. To facilitate this capability, ECLIPSX utilizes dynamic HTML (DHTML) to support fading effects of text and graphic images for code-shared flights and multiple destinations. For example, the name and flight number of one code-sharing airline can be easily set up to alternate with the name and flight number of the other code-sharing airline on a single line of flight information. The name and flight number appear to “fade” into the other name and flight number, providing an eye-catching transition that travelers are sure to notice. Either logos or names can be used for the airlines.
Sharon Weaver, director of administration and information technology at Tampa International Airport, commented, “We're very pleased with the software, especially the way it handles code-sharing. By utilizing one line of screen space for a code-shared flight we are able to display more flights, thereby providing a better service to our customers.”
"Tampa International Airport is one of Com-Net’s largest MUFIDS installations,” stated Doug Strasser, Com-Net vice president of sales and marketing. “We’re pleased that our ECLIPSX solution contributes to this award-winning airport’s high level of customer satisfaction.”
In March 2003, Condé Nast Traveler Magazine has once again rated Tampa International Airport among the best in the world. Receiving the third highest point total overall in the 2003 Readers’ Choice Awards behind Singapore’s Changi and Amsterdam’s Schipol Airports, Tampa International scored highest among all U.S. airports. |
