Com-Net Software, the leading provider of flight information display systems (FIDS) in North America, today announced it has released ECLIPSX Flight Information Display System 2.0. ECLIPSX is Com-Net’s innovative family of FIDS products, based on the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 operating system, Internet Explorer® and the latest Web display technologies.
“We are committed to continually enhancing ECLIPSX for our customers. Many of the Version 2 enhancements were made in direct response to their input,” stated Doug Strasser, Com-Net vice president of sales and marketing.
“ECLIPSX was introduced in May 2001, and we now have over 20 current or pending ECLIPSX installations.” He continued, “Two years later the rest of the FIDS industry is scrambling to produce a Web-based product like ECLIPSX. We can’t help but to be proud of our bold leadership.”
ECLIPSX Version 2 provides a variety of new features, including failover protection and system health monitoring, as well as multi-lingual and multi-character set support, new messaging options, reporting functions and user enhancements.
Although ECLIPSX systems have an uptime of over 99.9%, ECLIPSX failover protection provides peace of mind in the unlikely event of a critical primary server failure. With the new failover module, during a primary server failure, parts or all of the system’s functionality can be transferred to a secondary server. ECLIPSX user workstations would be logged out and, along with system devices, redirected to a secondary server. Any ECLIPSX modules in use are stopped on the primary server and restarted on the secondary server. In addition, the system administrator is notified via e-mail, pager or network message. Data redundancy is provided by replicating changes between the ECLIPSX primary server and secondary server, ensuring data consistency between the databases in the event of a failover.
ECLIPSX Version 2 provides integrated monitoring of FIDS hardware and software. Each major component is monitored for conditions such as availability and performance. A system administrator can easily access this system information on an ECLIPSX user workstation through a Web browser. The monitoring feature will also notify the system administrator of potential problems via e-mail, pager or network message.
ECLIPSX Version 2 now supports the display of multiple languages, based on Windows Unicode. It also offers two new messaging options: instant messaging and emergency messaging. Instant messaging allows operators to send, receive and keep track of internal messages on their ECLIPSX user workstations. With emergency messaging, messages can be created on an ECLIPSX user workstation and quickly displayed on FIDS displays throughout an airport by zoned area.
User enhancements include the capability to click on a field in a flight schedule to open a dialog, where flight data can be changed and display attributes, such as blinking text, added. Another new feature allows the system administrator to assign field override values to users to prioritize who can modify fields in the daily schedule.
“With this new release, our ECLIPSX FIDS system continues to provide the highest levels of stability, ease-of-use, and flexibility to our customers,” stated Mark Schindler, director of software development at Com-Net.
Com-Net recently finished ECLIPSX upgrades at Reno/Tahoe International Airport, Des Moines International Airport and Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA) hub headquarters in Dulles International Airport. In addition, Com-Net completed an installation of ECLIPSX-Lite, its FIDS solution for smaller airports, at Freeport International Airport, Grand Bahamas. Current projects include new installations at Boise Airport and Tucson International Airport and an ECLIPSX upgrade at Tampa International Airport. Com-Net has also been selected for MUFIDS projects at Port Columbus International Airport and Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers. |
